Water Softeners
Experience the Difference in Soft WaterWhich Softener Is Right for You?
The right model depends on three factors: your water source (municipal or well), your household priorities (budget, smart features, or chlorine removal), and your home size.
On Municipal Water
Your supply contains chlorine or chloramines. The Chlor-A-Soft is our top-of-line choice for municipal water — dual-action design that softens AND removes chlorine in a single tank.
On Well Water
Iron is usually the deciding factor. The Ultimate Series is our top-of-line well-water softener with clear iron removal capability built in. For severe iron or sulphur loads, pair any softener with a dedicated iron filter.
Budget Priority
The Value Series delivers reliable softening at our lowest entry point — well-suited to rental properties, vacation homes, and smaller condos. 7-year warranty.
Smart Water Softener
The Chemsoft Smart connects to a mobile app for real-time water usage monitoring, low-salt notifications sent to your phone, remote system control, and predictive maintenance alerts. Wi-Fi enabled with a 10-year warranty. Ideal for absentee owners, rental properties, and homeowners who want full visibility into their water system.
How to Compare Water Softeners
Most water softeners look similar from the outside. The meaningful differences are in five places:
CSA Certified Products
Excalibur manufactured water softeners are CSA certified, ensuring they meet the highest standards of safety and quality for your peace of mind.
Hard Water in Ontario
Hard water is the norm across Ontario. Municipal supplies in Kitchener-Waterloo regularly test between 17 and 36 grains per gallon (GPG) depending on the zone. Barrie's North and Central zones run 20-25 GPG. Most well water across Simcoe County and Wellington County tests even higher, with significant variation between properties just kilometers apart.
At these hardness levels, untreated water leaves visible scale on faucets, etches dishware, dries out skin and hair, shortens the life of every appliance that touches water, and adds noticeably to your water-heating bill through scale-insulated heating elements. A properly sized water softener is the only proven solution that addresses hard water at the source — and our complete Excalibur lineup ranges from entry-level to premium smart-connected models so we can match the right system to your specific water profile, home size, and budget.

Common Questions
Do I need a softener on city water?
Usually yes. Municipal water in Ontario isn't softened by the city — it arrives at your home still hard. KW supplies often exceed 25 GPG; Barrie's central zones reach 20-25 GPG. Cities only treat for safety (disinfection), not hardness.
What size do I need?
Depends on household size, water hardness, and daily use. Use our sizing calculator for an estimate, or book a free on-site assessment.
How much salt will I use?
A modern high-efficiency softener for a family of four typically uses one 18kg bag every 6-10 weeks. Older or oversized systems use 2-3x that. We size to actual use, not nameplate maximum.
Can I install it myself?
Possible but rarely recommended. A typical installation involves plumbing, electrical, drain line routing, and bypass valve installation. DIY installations frequently void the warranty.
